themes

Reskon that my art has two key themes - longing and changing position (traveling). These are the two things which preoccupy me most. I need to make this relevant to any perspective on looker. So what if i can capture a pefect image of something i long for. What is this saying about me and my experiences. Ooh look at the lovely place i have been. Ooh i’m sharing this vision of a pretty sunset with you… have you ever seen one like this. What i should be saying is - look heres something i have wasted plenty of time longing for or recalling, rather than concentrating on the present or the future. I live in the past and want to hang on to images and things rather than moving forward with purpose. What relevance does this image have for me. I should be recording the experience of longing (or changing position) and considering how this is impacting my plans for here and now. Guff guff.

anylysing

In anylysing my art work recently everything has been too laboured, too structured. I have been trying to capture perfect images of perfect images, rather than my experiences. In principle i have been going about things in the right way - collecting evidence in sketches, colour swabs, photos, video, collected material. I just need to make a better fist of drawing it all together, rather than settling on an image as reflecting the whole. An image can act as my key into a memory but is simply an image for anyone esle who sees it.

shower antics

I have returned to my favoured shower practice and can wholeheartedly recommend it. Before geting out of the shower turn it up as hot as you can stand it. Then in one quick movement turn the heat down as low as possible. You hav to turn it down in one go or you woos out and stop half way. The result is shocking but so invigorating. It literally takes your breath away - start with the spray between your shoulder blades then move up onto your head, turn for the face soaking and then your front. Before a final shock to the back. It leaves me spun out for a few seconds afterwards. It is great.

he thinks he is a modern day town crier aparantly.Yahoo! Mail - sostewpedley@yahoo.comApr 2nd - Yesterday there was the unfortunate occurance of an April fools passing without so much of a hint of frivolity, high jinks or japes. What a wasted opportunity to at the very least mung up our fellow man. It completely passed me by until i got to work today and realised it was the second. Such is the glorious bubble of perfection i am obviously floating about in - i’m am being flowery here - or something.

There is a furnture shop around and about called Dwell - their strap line is ‘Live like this’. All i can say is Naff jolly well off. I’m not even going to look at what makes you think your so special. It is this kind of brazen unfrontery which puts me right off. No No No, shan’t.

cliff walking

Finally in Devon, at the third attempt. Really missed cliffs particularly of late. I always find myself dreaming of walking on the cliffs, when in fact it may be a city street at this time of year. I think it has something to do with the freshness in the air and that we often walked the coastal path on fresh days (as opposed to roasting or sodden - although now i come to think of it there a few of them too).
